Rose- Mum/Tracee -sister/liz-sister/louise-sister/Matt- brother – Eulogy to Doug.
Douglas George Hippolyte was born on April the 27th 1972 in Princess Louise Hospital in Earl’s Court to his parents Rosamund and Andrew. The first three years of his life was spent at Travis House, Blackheath with his two eldest sisters Tracey and Elizabeth. Three years after that along came his younger sister Louise.
During his time spent in Blackheath Doug began to show signs of a daring and adventurous personality. Doug was a complicated child I say this because he had an aversion to rules, which meant he was always gonna be in a heck of a lot of trouble! Some of his adventures include, high rise climbing, arson by default, escapism and the unique talent of swallowing sweets and dumplings whole! He was a stubborn and hardheaded boy. Which meant he got a lot of hot licks quite often!
When Douglas was seven years of age the whole family moved to
Maran Way, Thamesmead. Two years later their youngest brother Matthew joined them. And he was still getting into trouble so I guess not much changed.
During his time at Maran Way Doug became a keen athlete. He took up break dancing, smoking and football his favourite team was Liverpool fc. He loved music and was a huge fan of hip hop especially Doug .E Fresh and Public Enemy and Adam and the Ants and any chance he got Doug used to dance When he was 3yrs old his favourite song was Boogie on Reggae Woman by Stevie Wonder, Which really showed just how good he could shake his hips! He put his Skills into practice at a caravan holiday in Wales in the early 80’s when Doug and his sisters Tracey and Elizabeth entered a talent competition and won them a return holiday the following year! His other talent which is debateable is singing he really believed he was either Montel Jordon singing “This is how we do it or one of the Fugees blasting out “Ready or not”. He met his partner Debra in 1992 and they have two beautiful children, daughter Staisha now 11 and son Nathan now 6. They shared a home in Surbiton, Surrey for just over 10 years. He was a strict but dedicated dad. with a family he was very proud of. Doug and Debs were planning a wedding and were very much still in love and happy. Staisha , Nathan and his nephew Quayz and were ironically christened in this same church so it only seems right to remember his life here at St Pauls.
His love and loyalty to his family and friends was undeniable and unbreakable. He had a great sense of humour and loved a good laugh but if you stepped on his toes start running and fast and don’t look back!!! He lived his life to the fullest and he never wanted to feel restricted it made him really vex, if anyone tried to tell him how to run his life or his kids! Despite his hard man reputation Doug was a big softy deep down and would on many occasions feel misunderstood. He was really frustrated with his diabetes and said sometimes it felt like hell on earth at times. Even when he was feeling down he was always happy being around his friends and family. Doug was fondly known as bob-bo a name lovingly given to him by his Grandma as a young boy!
